How far would you go?
What if you could have everything you need, everything you want and discover things you didn't know were even relevant for you? What if in order to have everything you need and want it required you to travel halfway across the world. Would you do it? What if you had to live with people you didn't know and trust they had your best interest at heart. Would you go?
I had the privilege of meeting three smart, savvy, charismatic, determined and driven entrepreneurs from Rwanda. They traveled across the globe to the United States so they could learn more about business ownership (and lots of other things) from like-minded women who have already achieved success. For 2 weeks these ladies (along with many others from Afghanistan and Rwanda) spent time in Dallas, Texas and Oklahoma City. They met other business leaders, people in and outside their industries and learned some fundamental skills to help them grow.
Their stories were amazing. The challenges they have overcome and the leap of faith they have taken to change the lives of generations to come is truly overwhelming. I was able to help each of the three women pictured with public speaking, presentation skills and presence when meeting others. In a short period of time I felt connected to each of them and inspired by their stories. I was humbled by their experiences and their determination. I was grateful for the opportunity to meet them, listen to them and share my knowledge with them.
Sometimes we take our circumstances for granted. As we move throughout the existence of our lives, we aren't fully aware of the struggles and obstacles so many others have to overcome. What may seem simple for one is extremely difficult for another.
How far would you go? How far would go to fulfill your dreams? Would you fight against the system of your country if it was designed to oppress you? Would you fight against the politics in business determined not to let "someone like you" become a part of the norm? Would you risk everything you have and know on a whim that maybe this will work? These women and the others like them did and do. They stepped outside themselves and saw beyond their circumstances to achieve what GOD has placed upon their hearts. Their journey included traveling across the country after being selected to participate in a program designed to help them achieve their success. They trust, they believe and they shine.
Anything worth having is worth fighting for and these women live up to that saying every day. May their success serve to be an inspiration to us all.
